Weed Spraying Service
Carlsbad New Mexico
Treatment - Control
At Horizon, we have weed control down to a science. We design our spray treatments to target the specific grassy and broadleaf weeds in Carlsbad and the surrounding Eddy County New Mexico desert.
We use only child safe, people safe, and pet safe herbicides and pesticides approved by the NMDA and EPA in all of our applications and treatments.
Our services are guaranteed and we get excellent results because we understand the science behind long term control. Many weeds specific to Southeast New Mexico require different specialized treatments. No single herbicide takes care of all unwanted vegetation. We're familiar with the most common broadleaf weeds that infest Carlsbad lawns, yards, fields, and industrial sites and have created specific treatment programs to control them.
This allows us to provide excellent results in any treatment of pre and post emergent herbicides in sensitive areas such as lawns and gardens. We also provide excellent results for bare ground soil sterilization in residential as well as commercial, oilfield, industrial, railroad, roadway, and other utility applications.
- Pre-emergent Treatment - Prevents broadleaf and grassy weed seeds from germinating and growing in lawn areas, yards, planting beds, driveways, xeriscapes, etc.
- Post-Emergent - Kills already growing selective broadleaf and grassy weeds in lawns, yards, planting beds, xeriscapes, etc. without harming lawn or other plants.
- Non-Selective spray - Kills all vegetation in areas where it's applied.
- Residential Bare Ground Spraying - Kills all vegetation for extended period of time.
- Industrial Bare Ground Soil Treatment - Kills all vegetation including grasses, and shrubbery on oil pads, industrial sites, utility areas, road sides, farm fields, cell towers, etc. for an extended period of time.
Controlling weeds in Carlsbad is generally an all season ongoing process. In our warmer climate where there are fewer extended freezes, even less cold hardy species of weeds can grow and be prolific throughout the entire Winter.
And of course, as with most desert regions in the Southwest, the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons in Carlsbad promote countless species of broadleaf and grassy weeds and stickers in lawns, fields, orchards, gardens, roadsides, utility areas, oil pads, and almost any other area you can imagine including cracks in concrete and asphalt.
For the homeowner, usually the main concern is eliminating weeds that grow in lawns, gardens, access roads, vacant lots, and concrete areas with cracks. The majority of these residential treatments are, of course, in front and backyard lawn turf areas where a beautiful unblemished grass yard area is desired.
Lawn Pre-Emergent Spray Treatments
A beautiful lush lawn is usually no accident and the result of hard work, planning, sufficient water, and a properly timed program of applying pre-emergent and post emergent herbicides.
For some folks, a beautiful, lush, weed and sticker free lawn is a trophy and matching showcase for the rest of their landscaping. For others, it's a necessary element if they entertain, have a pool, or have kids that need a place to play.
While we'll leave the mowing and watering up to you, we are very knowledgeable in the area and will give free advice and consulting about it as part of our complete program. Along with that, we'll work out a complete season long pre and post herbicide program for you that will help keep your lawn and turf free of the unwanted troublesome weeds, grasses, and stickers of New Mexico. And you'll be surprised how inexpensive and cost effective it really is. Give us a call or send us a message today for a free consultation and estimate.
Generally, most people in Southeast New Mexico do at least a pre and post emergent application in the early Spring. This application kills the existing early Spring and late Winter weeds that are lingering in the lawn as well as prevents any seeds from sprouting into the Summer months. This application is especially important for yards with a problem with Field Sandbur and Puncture Vine as they can first germinate in the Spring.
For maximum control and a completely weed free lawn from season to season, we recommend at least two and possibly more applications a year. Once in the Spring and once in late Summer or an early Fall weed control treatment is minimum. While three to four applications spaced months apart is absolute best, we apply very good coverage that generally works very well in most yards.
Again, it depends on the type of invasive vegetation we're trying to control. As with Puncture Vine and Sandbur mentioned above, three applications is generally necessary. The seeds from these plants can be viable for up to seven years.
Other plants that are Winter annuals such as Henbit require a Fall application. These weeds produce flowers and seed in the Spring and then die as the weather warms. However, the seeds lie dormant until the Winter and then germinate and infest lawns in the early Spring. With a Fall application of pre-emergent herbicide, these types of plants are suppressed.
Driveway / Concrete Crack Spray
A weed is defined as any plant that is growing where you don't want it to grow. Then probably most anything that is growing in the cracks of your sidewalks, driveway, patio, parking lot, etc., would be considered a weed.
Weeds growing in your concrete and paver areas, not only look unsightly, but they also help to erode and expand the cracks they're growing in.
Most weed killers and sprays will give quick knockdown of existing weeds but do little or nothing to stop future weeds from growing.
Our crack spray treatments are applied to give you lasting control throughout the growing season. Usually, most situations only require one application a year.
Bare Ground Soil Sterilizing
This type of weed control is for any area where you don't want any type of vegetation to grow. For residential properties, this is usually but not limited to around buildings, fence lines, vacant lots, driveway pads, and other out of the way areas. Commercial applications are more but not limited to oilfield, industrial sites, right of ways, railroad, roadways, and utility areas around cell towers and power houses.
Bare ground soil sterilization is designed to keep the area clear and vegetation free. Depending on the amount of moisture we get in the area, these herbicides can be effective from a few to several months.
**What To Realistically Expect From Bare Ground Soil Sterilization** - While the herbicides we use are very effective and generally give good knockdown and control, many plant types are very resistant even to these types of chemicals. Bermuda grass is one and it grows very well in Carlsbad. It often requires a second application of a non-selective herbicide on some spots that may not die right away. While this isn't always the case, we always expect a 100% kill and don't include a second application in the initial cost. We don't want to charge you for services you won't get and of course we don't want the expense if we have to return for a small spot treatment.
Professional Weed Control Service
Our assessments, evaluations, and estimates for our weed control treatments are always free and with no obligation. As well, there are never any contracts with any of our services.
There is a variety of different types of weeds that infest Carlsbad and Eddy County requiring different treatments and spraying methods. A yard spray may require a selective weed killer while weed control on your gravel driveway would require a non-selective herbicide that kills everything. As well, a selective herbicide for your Fescue yard might kill your Bermuda lawn. A big part of our service is in the knowledge behind good weed management.
While we'll make recommendations based on your specific yard type or weed problem, you're under no obligation for the advice. The first step to successfully manage weeds here in Carlsbad is understanding which herbicide sprays control which weeds. We can help you with that.
